Net profit

What is left once every cost and income tax has been taken out of revenue.

Net profit is the bottom line of the financial year: all income less all costs, income tax included. A negative figure is a loss.

Iceland has one important quirk here. It does not tax profit as it is earned, only profit as it is distributed — income tax arises when profit is paid out as a dividend. Many profitable Icelandic companies therefore report zero income tax for the year. That is not an error in the report.

Net profit is also the amount by which equity grows over the year, if nothing is paid out.
