Company ID
The eight-digit number the Business Register assigns to every company when it is founded.
The company ID is an Icelandic company's primary identifier. The Business Register issues it on registration, it never changes, and it is not reissued to anyone else after a company is deleted.
Eight digits, no letters. A legal person's code usually begins with 1 (companies) or 8 (non-profit associations and foundations); a sole trader receives one too.
Unlike many countries, Iceland has no separate taxpayer number — the Tax and Customs Board uses the same company ID. The only separate number is the VAT number, issued to VAT-registered businesses.
